Artist’s Statement
May 2025 I have stitched and painted on and off throughout my life, partly influenced by my father who, in his early career, was a tailor and who always loved to paint. He was my greatest supporter. Over the last fifteen years or so I have developed my skills. I completed a City & Guilds diploma and since then have concentrated on art quilting and, more recently, on mixed media and printing; often combining all three in a piece of work. My style is mainly pictorial. I like to work in a small series and often use perspective and colour to draw the eye. There may well be a story too and sometimes there is a message. My art quilts are drawn onto plain fabric, then painted and free-motion quilted. I take many photographs on my travels, which can often be a basis for a series of work. In recent times, following a few upheavals in my life, I have spent more time “playing” which has resulted in a revived interest in printing, collaging and in recycling materials, hopefully in a playful way. |
