Pictorial

This has been my style for a very long time now.

When I completed a City & Guilds Diploma I had covered a great many techniques in patchwork and quilting and it made me focus on the things I enjoyed most.  I really enjoyed drawing, painting and stitching and this is what I developed over time.

I love taking photographs when I travel and these are often the basis for a series of work.  The triptych I made in 2012 following a wonderful trip to China to visit my son, who was living there for a year, was a painted collage of some of our experiences.  It won the pictorial section at Festival of Quilts that year and then Best of World at the World Quilt Fairs in the US.

Most of my pictorial quilts are parts of a series and I like to use perspective and a lot of colour.  Sometimes I use them to send a message and the viewer is invited to decide themselves what is going on in others.
